The County Parade Marshal is responsible for the training of The Royal British Legion Standard Bearers in Essex and for co-ordinating their attendance at church services, parades and other events.

A Training School held each year allows Standard Bearers to benefit from the highest possible level of training.  The school gives Standard Bearers regular opportunities to polish drill movements, to rehearse for forthcoming events and to meet their Legion colleagues in an informal setting.  All Standard Bearers are encouraged to attend the Training School and to enter an annual competition at which the County Standard Bearer and County Deputy Standard Bearer are selected.

Standard Bearers are kept informed of forthcoming events and other relevant information through a newsletter, "The Standard", which is distributed by email monthly.
