Arboretum Visit

Seend branch and Devizes Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club recently made a trip to the Armed Forces Memorial Arboretum. Heres a short report and pictures.

On Sat 8 April a joint trip to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas was organised by Seend Branch and the Devizes Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club. A 14 seater mini bus supplied and driven by Potterne Branch stalwarts Teresa and John Chandler enabled us to have a very cost effective trip.

Seend has a special link to the Arboretum and the Basra Wall due to Andrew "Ollie" Holloway's plaque proudly displayed on the wall.

"Ollie" ex Welsh Fusiliers aged 32 (was part of the Control Risks Group before being killed by an IED in Iraq July 2005. He left behind a wife and 2 children. The group paid tribute on behalf of his parents Ken and Sue Holloway who sadly couldn't make the trip. A short Act of Homage was made with the whole group in attendance, a wreath was laid by Chairman Kevin Toft on behalf of Seend RBL.

For a change the weather was perfect, following the service we met for coffee and cream teas before spending a few hours looking around the various memorials before heading back home to Devizes.
