Sussex Remembrance Parades and Services - 2023

 Aldwick

11.11 10.15 with Aldwick Parish Council at the Millennium Gardens, Pryors Lane Aldwick

12.11 10.30 at the War Memorial, Clarence Road, Bognor Regis

Burgess Hill

Armistice Service on the 11th this year the memorial is 100 years old and we are pleased to have the LL for Sussex attending.

On Sunday 12th @ 10.45am we have the service at the memorial to lay wreaths and then into the St John's church for a service 

 

Chichester

Chichester's remembrance we muster in North street for a 10.40 March off up to Litten Gardens a service there then march back to North street for the fall out

 

  Ditchling

Saturday 11th November, 2023, at Ditchling War Memorial gathering at 10.50am for 11.00 am

Branch Standard Bearer, Branch President, Vice President, Branch Committee, members of the Public will gather at the War Memorial for a brief service of Remembrance for Armistice Day. Revd David Wallis will read out the names on the War Memorial and a Wreath will be laid. Two minutes silence.

 

Sunday 12th November, 2023, at Streat War Memorial gathering at 10.50 am for 11.00 am for the Act of Remembrance. Branch Committee members and Villagers will gather at the War Memorial. Lay Reader Colyeen Blanchard will read out the names on the War Memorial and Wreaths will be laid. Bugler will be present to play the Last Post followed by Reveille. This will be followed by Remembrance Service in Streat Church led by Colyeen Blanchard.

 

Sunday 12th November, 2023, Ditchling. Parade will muster at St Margaret's C of E Primary School, Lewes Road, Ditchling, from 10.10 am onwards under the guidance of Parade Marshall, Michael Hughes. Branch Standard Bearer, Branch President, Vice President, Branch Committee, RBL Members, Scouts, Cubs, Guides and Brownies will parade with Burgess Hill Marching Youth Band leading the Parade. Will march to Ditchling War Memorial for the Act of Remembrance to be led by Revd David Wallis who will read out the names on the War Memorial. Bugler will be present to play the Last Post followed by Reveille. This will be followed by Remembrance Service in St Margaret's Church.

 

 

East Preston

9.45 - 10:15: Church Service in St Marys Church

10:15 - 10:30: Parade forms up outside the Church ready to march to the East Preston War Memorial.

10:35 - 10:40 (No later than 10:40) Remembrance Parade leaves the Church and marches to the East Preston War Memorial, The Street, East Preston.

11:00 2 Minutes Silence and Wreath laying at the East Preston War Memorial

11.45 Remembrance Service at the Kingston War Memorial, Sea Lane, Kingston

12:00 2 Minutes Silence and Wreath laying at the Kingston War Memorial

Following the East Preston War Memorial Service the British Legion will be open for refreshments and we would like to welcome you for drinks

2023 - 60th Anniversary end of National Service / 75th Anniversary arrival Empire Windrush

This year, Remembrance Sunday falls on the 12th November, with Armistice Day on Saturday 11th.

As part of the 'Poppy Appeal', there will be a Recital in Holy Trinity Church, raising money jointly for the Church and Poppy Appeal, on Saturday 4th November at 2.00pm. I am very pleased that Harpist, Margaret Watson will be joining me to perform. We look forward to seeing you, for which I am sure will be an enjoyable performance.

On Saturday 11th November, 'Poppy Day', we will be holding our annual R.B.L. Coffee morning in the Peter Griffits Hall from 10.00-12noon. Please come and have a coffee, buy some cakes and enjoy a chat with friends, while supporting the Poppy Appeal. At 11.00am we will be congregating at the War Memorial for a short service of Remembrance, which all are welcome to attend.

Remembrance Sunday falls on the 12th November. As in years gone by, we will begin at the War Memorial with the wreath laying at 10.30am, followed by the service in Holy Trinity Church. We look forward to seeing everyone again this year.

The R.B.L. is always looking for new members. You don't have to be ex-service, just be prepared to support our servicemen and their families and all the Royal British Legion does to help them, in so many different ways. Horsted Keynes

10am - Requiem in St Giles church, Horsted Keynes, ending with the Act of Remembrance at the Village War Memorial in the graveyard at the front of the Church.

11:10am - Royal British Legion service in St Giles church.

The Act of Remembrance will be static (no parade) and completely off-road.

 

Hurstpierpoint

there will be a Remembrance Sunday parade and service at Hurstpierpoint (Hurst and Albourne Branch) on Sunday 12th November. The parade muster point will be at South Avenue in Hurstpierpoint at 10:30 and will march off at 10:45 along the High street to the War Memorial in the grounds of the Holy Trinity church. A short service will take place at 10:55 around the memorial . A full church service will follow on immediately afterwards inside the Church itself.

 

 

Midhurst   

Midhurst Parish Church: 11/11/2023 Short service at the War memorial( at 11am)

Midhurst Parish Church: 12/11/2023 10:45 Roll of honour followed by two minutes silence and the laying of wreaths followed by a service in the Parish church. 

 

 Rye & District

A parade of Service, civil and youth organisations from Adam’s marching via the Town Hall leaving at 10.40 am

The Annual Service of Remembrance will be held in St Mary’s and then at the Rye Town Memorial starting at 10.55 am.

Everyone will be welcome. Participants should be at in the Church by 10.45am.

After the service there will be an act of Remembrance and Wreath laying at the Rye Town Hall War Memorial.

 

Seaford

Wreath laying and Service at Seaford Town War Memorial starts 10.30 am.

Remembrance Service at Parish Church follows

 

Southwick Green

We will muster at Southwick Square car park (north) at around 10:30, we will leave the Square and march to the Memorial (located on The Green South side) at around 10:50 where we will hold a two minute silence before a short service will take place lead by Rev Johnathan French. We will leave The Green and march back to The Square via the West side of The Green South we will disband at Southwick Square North

 

Storrington

11 Nov. 11:00  Roll of Honour, Storrington High Street,Short service and wreaths

12 Nov. 15:00 St Mary’s Parish Church Storrington

 

Sussex Weald

11th November 2023 – two minutes silence at the village hall Cowfold at 11 AM ( the village Hall was built at a memorial to our Fallen in the first world war)

12th Remembrance service, St Peters Cowfold , hopefully Externally in the churchyard with plan B, inside.

There is a parade from the recreation ground to St Peters , this is run by the Scouts

 

Wadhurst

Sunday 12th November:

Act of Remembrance at the village War Memorial / Garden of Remembrance.

Timing: Parade from the Wadhurst Primary School. assemble at 10:00. Parade to War Memorial, 10:15 (road closure organised by Parish Council not RBL). Act of Remembrance 10:15 - 10:30.

After the Act of Remembrance we move to the Village Church (again organised by Parish Council). Arrive Church circa 10:45.

Wadhurst Church Service: 10:45.

Act of Remembrance at Frant: location Commemoration Hall: Static: Form up 14:50. Act 15:00. Teas and coffee in the Hall thereafter.

 

Willingdon

The Remembrance Events for Willingdon Branch:-

Saturday 11th November 2023

A short service will be held by Willingdon and Jevington Parish Council at their offices at the Willingdon Triangle at 11am with Willingdon branch in attendance parading their Standard.

Sunday 12th November 2023

Willingdon Branch have been invited to parade their Standard in the parade by Willingdon and Jevington Parish Council. The parade will muster at 10.15 in Upper Kings Drive Eastbourne to march through Willingdon village ending up at St Mary the Virgin Parish Church , in Church St Willingdon for the Remembrance Service at 11am.

Sunday 12th November 2023

At 3pm Willingdon and Jevington Parish Council along with Willingdon Branch will hold a commemorative service at The Ruthless Memorial (American Bomber lost WW2) Butts Brow remembering the American Bomber Ruthless that crashed into the hillside on Butts Brow Eastbourne.

 

Wittering

Sunday 12th November 2023

10.45am Parade to War Memorial, East Wittering
