Royal British Legion Connects Communities Through Remembrance

Two-day event raises awareness and funds for the Poppy Appeal while sparking local interest in the meaning of the poppy.

Bad-Lippspinge, NRW – August 22, 2026

I recently had the opportunity to cover the Royal British Legion's participation at the British Festival in Bad Lippspringe, held on August 22-23, 2026. The event, which ran from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, was a significant occasion for the Legion. Assisting me in this endeavour were Sandra James, Steve Turner, and Mark Allan. Together, we witnessed a remarkable turnout and enthusiasm from the public. The festival proved to be an excellent platform for the Legion to raise awareness about the Poppy Appeal. A substantial amount of funds was raised over the two days, reflecting the public's generosity. There was a notable curiosity among the German attendees about the

significance of the poppy. Many were eager to learn why it is worn and its role as a symbol of remembrance. This interest was not limited to the German public; British expatriates also showed their support and generosity. Overall, the event was not only a success in terms of fundraising but also in publicising the Legion's role and the importance of remembrance within the German community.
