Hello and welcome to the March edition of The RBL Stourbridge Branch’s newsletter 2026.
Joe Bullock’s funeral will take place at Stourbridge Crematorium on Wednesday 25th March at13.30, Joe who was a WW2 and D Day veteran passed away on the 14th of February, at the age of 101. Message from the RNA, Joe was The President; “We’ve been informed that space may be limited inside for the service. Joe was a member of several clubs and organisations as well as the RNA so many will be in attendance too. Of course, Joe’s family will take precedence. For those of us attending, we can line up outside as Joe arrives and Tony Greenman will bring us to attention and pipe the coffin, if space is available, we can join the service inside.”
This month’s branch meeting took place on the 11th of March and was attended by approximately 12 members (Mick Sage once again joined us via video link from Thailand), a big thankyou to all those who attended. As several committee members are away, there will be NO BRANCH MEETING IN APRIL, the next one will be Wednesday 13th May, 20.00 at The Old Edwardians Club, Drury Lane, just off Market Street, Stourbridge, all branch members are welcome to attend. Subsequently there will be no newsletter next month either.
The next Veterans’ breakfast is on Saturday 18th April. The planned breakfasts for the rest of the year are Saturdays 18th April, 12th September and 28th of November, callings will go out 3 to 4 weeks prior to these dates. If you are a veteran and have not been contacted by us but would like to attend, please get in touch with either myself or Sue, the treasurer, details below. This informal event, which takes place at the Old Edwardians Club is where a group of likeminded people meet to enjoy a discounted breakfast, socialise and raise some money for the charity through the raffle. The cost of the breakfast is £10, and we will need to know if you wish to attend no later than the Wednesday before each event. A big thank you, as always, to Tim, Tracy and the team for their continued support of these events.
Following on from the success of the previous two years, there will be another talk by local historian Ken Wright followed by a buffet lunch at the Old Edwardians Club on Saturday 6th June, cost £20.00 per head. Ken’s talks have always been very insightful; the subject this year is The Battle of the Somme (110 years on). This event is open to all, members, partners, families and friends to book a place please contact either myself, the treasurer, the secretary or Tim at The Old Eds.
There will be a skittles evening on Friday 10th July at The Queens Head on Enville Street starting at 19.00. The cost will be £15.00 per head, and this covers game time, a rather good buffet and prizes. This event is open to all, members, partners, families and friends to book a place please contact either myself, the treasurer or the secretary. Last year proved to be a very enjoyable evening, with The Booties, Bill and John, taking home first prize. Who can knock them off the pedestal?
Parkfield Grange Care Home, 31 Hagley Rd, Stourbridge, continue to welcome us hosting Veterans Coffee Mornings on the 2nd Tuesday and last Thursday of each month 10.30-12.00. The next few are 26th March 14th and 30th April and 12th May, there is no charge for these events which are open to all - no need to book just turn up. Thanks once again to Emily and her team for being so welcoming and looking after us.
