A Busy Week for the District Committee

Busy Week for District Committee

17 March - A busy week for the District Committee, on Tuesday 15th March, we held our quarterly committee meeting which was followed by the kind invitation from Benidorm Branch to attend Jim Thomson’s Memorial Service, the service was a fitting tribute to Jim, highlighting his devotion to the Legion and in particular his accomplishments within the Branch, firstly towards the annual Poppy Appeal and secondly his service as Chairman of the Benidorm & District Branch. The photo below shows Jim's son Allister, who read a moving tribute to his father.

On the same day the Chairman Jack Kemp and our District Community Support Coordinator Pam Twissell-Cross MBE attended Torrevieja Branch General Meeting, Pam was given the opportunity to address the Branch Members and talk about the importance of Branch Community Support (BCS), I’m extremely pleased to say that following Pam’s presentation on BCS six Members signed up to become BCS Supporters as Telephone Buddies or Hospital/Home Visitors.

At the end of the meeting Jack presented two District Chairman’s Certificate of Appreciation, firstly to Pamela Wilding for her work as Branch Chairlady and Geoffrey Thomas for his work as Branch Treasurer, two well deserved awards.  Following the presentations Jack was given the opportunity to address the Members on the support of the District Committee to all Branches and an update on the Royal British Legion.  Time was then given for a Q&A session from Members to the District Chairman.

On Thursday 17th March both Jack and Pam were kindly invited to visited Mojacar Branch by the new Chairman Gwynne Howell, this presented another opportunity to engage with Branch Members and also people from the local community.  Pam again covered BCS Importance and Jack provided an update on TRBL followed by another Q&A, after the talks we had the opportunity to engage directly with the Members, it was also very pleasing to see one of the guests sign up to be the newest member of the Mojacar Branch and also one member requesting more details on becoming a Caseworker for the Branch.

Please remember the District Committee are here to support all the Branches within the District.  If Branches would like a visit from any of the District Committee Members please ask, we will be very happy to attend your Branch General Meeting or a standalone event such as a Branch Meet & Greet or one of your social activities.  Please contact either the District Chairman direct on:  Spainnorth.Chairman@rbl.community or the District Secretary on:  Spainnorth.Secretary@rbl.community (March 22)
