Branch Community Support

The Branch Community Support (BCS) scheme has been in operation since October 2016.  More and more branches are becoming involved in delivering great things within the North & East Yorkshire area, for the benefit of its beneficiaries.

There are individuals living in every community who may need assistance.  The wide network of Branches delivering BCS provides the local link, gives key basic support and are often the first point of contact for beneficiaries.  Where needed, Branches also play a key role in referring a beneficiary to the welfare team, when it is apparent that they have further support needs.

Branch Activities - Branches can provide basic support to individuals in their community through activities such as:

Raising awareness in the local area of the services the Legion provides to the Armed Forces
Community.  It promotes the large membership network, helping to tackle loneliness and isolation, by becoming/recruiting Telephone Buddies, to give individuals an opportunity to talk to someone regularly over the phone.

Helping to tackle loneliness and isolation by becoming/recruiting a Home & Hospital Visitor to give individuals the opportunity to experience companionship and be part of the community.

Helping to support people during a difficult time by offering Bereavement Support representation at funerals and providing Standard Bearers.

Working in partnership with the local Area Office to assist in providing information to people in the community, helping them to access assistance.  Touchpoints are developed in discussion with the Area Team as it forms a key part of the advice and information function.
