Minutes of the Meeting: Held 21 August 2013

Meeting Opening: Meeting opened at 19.15 The Act of Homage was duly observed.

Present: There were 17 members and 1 guest present, Roll call available if required from the secretary.

Apologies: There were 2 apologies

Minutes of the last meeting: Proposed by Eric Colley, seconded by Roy Ashton that the Minutes of the Previous Meeting be passed as read. Carried.

Matter arising:

Alan Walker gave details of his meeting with TSS Sheffield. There is a vacancy on their committee available to RBL members, however this is quite a heavy commitment.

The Chairman gave an update on affiliation details with Mosborough.

The Chairman gave details of the Norfolk Park bank holiday event. The subject of sales and giveaways was discussed.

Correspondence:

The RBL county raffle prizes have been drawn and the winners were published. There were no winners from branch.

Membership cards for all members who pay by cash will be delivered to the branch secretary on 13 September.

Steve Barnett from Millhouses is seeking sponsorship for a bike ride from London to Paris on 9 September. He hopes to raise money for The Legion’s vital welfare work.

Treasurers Report:

The Treasurer gave details of current spending on Poppy appeal items. £1800 on items in general and £210 on tea towels.

The Treasurer gave an update on other funds. £178 in the 3rd Wednesday fund and £279 in the joint accounts.

New members:

Nil.

Proposals:

Proposed by Eric Colley, seconded by Phil Thickett, that sum of £20 be made available to sponsor Steve Barnett on his London to Paris cycle ride. Carried. Alan Walker will make the appropriate arrangements.

AOB:

Alan Walker introduced the Defence Discount Service Card. Those wishing to apply should register at www.defencediscountservice.co.uk

Eric Colley pointed out that he has faced delays in registering and receiving his card.

Walter Whiteley gave details of the Battle of Britain Parade which takes place on Sunday 15 September. Those wishing to March should gather at the Sheffield City Hall at 14:00 hours. Those not marching but wishing to attend the service should gather at the Victoria Hall at 15:15 hours.

Dave Warburton gave an update on details of the RSA visit to Eden camp on 8 September.
