POPPY APPEAL LAUNCH 2019

Friday 16th October saw the launch of the 2019 Poppy Appeal here in District North, Spain. In glorious sunshine, the Torrevieja Pipes and Drums led a parade of Standards, guests and members along the Benidorm seafront to Rincón de Loix. Here, with music provided by The Royal British Legion Band in Spain, a short Act of Remembrance was followed by speeches from our VIP guests, including: Don Cubbon, Chairman District North; Antonio Pérez, Mayor of Benidorm; Kate Green, Head of Overseas Operations, TRBL HQ; Sara-Jane Morris, British Consul and Lt Cdr Ed Dunn, representing DA Madrid.

The speeches emphasised the importance of the vital work in support of serving soldiers, veterans and their families carried out by the Legion which is only possible because of the generous donations of the general public to The Poppy Appeal. It was pointed out that, with many thousands of Brisitsh expatriates living is Spain, a significant number of whom are themselves veterans or dependants, the majority of the money raised in Spain is actually spent here in support of those in need. We were introduced to the theme of this year’s campaign, “Remember Together”.
