Caseworker Training January 2024

A Caseworker training course will be held on the 9th and 10th of January 2024 for any new caseworkers wanting to complete the training and for caseworkers who have not yet done the Refresher course offered in October 2023.
The course will be held at the Expat Centre in Rojales as before, unless anyone has mobility issues, in which case please contact Billie Graham-Thomas to let her know so that other arrangements can be made.

The Royal British Legion, Javea Branch will be holding a Remembrance Service on Sunday 12th November 2023 at Javea Fisherman’s Church, C. Pío X, 9, 03730 Xàbia at 3pm with the Queen Elizabeth School Choir.

Mojacar Branch
Armistice Day Remembrance Services
On Remembrance Day Saturday11th Nov at 11am there is a short "parade", hopefully with a bugler, to remember fallen comrades and family. Please be there at 10.45 and get-together for a coffee or beer at Scotties at 11.10. This event is in the small car park on the Playa at the outdoor chapel (next to Scottie's). The RBL standard will be on parade.
On Remembrance Sunday 12th November a Remembrance Service will be held at the outdoor chapel on the Playa, adjacent to Scottie's. The service will start at 10.40. Afterwards there will be a lunch at Sensations at 1pm.

Gran Alacant & La Marina Branch
Armistice Day Remembrance Service
The Gran Alacant and La Marina branch of the Royal British Legion invite you to join them on Sunday November 12th 2023 for a special event on the occasion of Remembrance Day. On Remembrance Day we come together to remember those who lost their lives during World War I as well as in more recent conflicts. This will take place in Plaza Mayor AKA Masa Square in Gran Alacant at 12:00.

The Branch is looking for a few folk to read either, a poem/reading suitable for the occasion &/or a short bible passage
They have someone to represent the Army & the Air Force, but are still looking for anyone with a Naval/Merchant Navy background

The Royal British Legion, Javea Branch will be holding a Remembrance Service on Friday 10th November 2023 at 6:30 PM at the Church of Santa Maria dels Desemparats de Moraira, C. de la Iglesia, 13, 03724 Moraira
The Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir will also be attending.
Everyone is welcome to join us in commemorating The Fallen, you don't have to be a member of the Legion or even Ex-Services.

Torrevieja Branch
Armistice Day Remembrance Service
The Royal British Legion, Torrevieja Branch and the Mayor of Torrevieja invite all who wish to attend the Remembrance Service, Saturday 11th November 2023 at The Inmaculada Concepción Church, Torrevieja. Father Richard A Seabrook SSC will officiate the service; The Phoenix International Concert Band will provide the music. In attendance will be Torrevieja Pipes and Drums. All Veterans are invited to march with the Standards, dignitaries from the Plaza de la Constitution into the Church at 10.40am. Following the service the laying of the wreaths and personal crosses will be at the Garden of Remembrance, The Church of England Chaplaincy of Ss Peter and Paul, at La Siesta 1.15-1.30pm.
Following the laying of the wreaths a lunch will be held at the Restaurant Villa Salada see Menu below:

Poppy Appeal Launch 2023
The Poppy Appeal 2023 will be launched in Spain with a ceremony in Benidorm on Saturday, 14th October. It starts with a Parade of Standards from Calle Castelló, stepping off at 13.00 and arriving at the dais at Rincon de Loix at approximately 13.15. We will be welcoming representatives from the British Embassy in Madrid and its local Consulates, Royal British Legion Headquarters in London and Benidorm Town Hall as our guests at this key event.
You can get further details of this key event, including how to book in for the lunch in the Flash Hotel following the ceremony, from your local RBL Branch. You will also be able to see further details on this page closer to the date.
Although we collect funds throughout the year, this ceremony marks the start of the main collection period leading up to Remembrance Sunday. The funds we raise remain here in Spain to support a growing number of ex-Service personnel who need the Legion's support. If you're free on the day, please come and help us mark the event and kick this year's Poppy Appeal off to a flying start.

Tomorrow - Saturday 24th June 2023,
Spain District North and its branches will be celebrating Armed Forces Day
AFD23 will be held in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Plaza de la Constitución, 03181 Torrevieja starting at 15.00 hours. The service will be preceded by a short Parade of Standards from Paseo Vistalegre to the Church, moving off at 14.50.
The church service will be held in both English and Spanish.
Reception – as mentioned above, Torrevieja Town Hall has very kindly invited guests to a reception in the Cultural Society Casino of Torrevieja, Pº Vistalegre 14, 03181 Torrevieja following the service.
The reception will be on a self-paying basis.

Saturday 10th June evening's Party in the Park was a great success, it was nice to see so many Branch Members from across the District coming together to support The Royal British Legion (TRBL) Poppy Appeal.

Branch Management, MS Office 365 & Membership Administration Portal (MAP) - District Course
On Tuesday 30th & Wednesday 31st May 2023, the District Training Officer Mr Paul Franks and the District Chairman Mr Jack Kemp delivered another set of District Training Courses for Branch Management, MS Office 365 & Membership Administration Portal.
The courses were attended by four Branch Committee Members from Gran Alacant & La Marina Branch.

Pamela Dawson-Tasker BEM
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Pamela Dawson Tasker BEM. Pamela was an amazing ambassador for not only the Royal British Legion but a number of other Charities here in Spain and will be sadly missed by all.
Pamela (or PDT as she was affectionately known as) was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in 2014 for her charitable work and assistance to the expatriate community.
PDT started her work in 1982 distributing poppy boxes for the Royal British Legion (RBL) and went on to found the RBL Benidorm Branch and also became a member of the District Committee.
Funeral details will be published as and when we know them.

St Georges Day Lunch - 23rd April 2023 - from 1400 - onwards
The Royal British Legion Madrid branch is organising a fundraising event in celebration of Saint George’s Day to raise awareness of their work in Madrid and make a fun day out for all!
The event will be in the form of an informal lunch, including drinks at one of Madrid’s finest establishments Robuchon.
We will also be holding a raffle with some great prizes on offer!
The price per person will be €40.00 for lunch and drinks.

On Tuesday 04th & Wednesday 05th April 2023, Spain District North Training Officer, Paul Mensha Franks assisted by the District Chairman, Jack Kemp, provided another two day training course in Quesada, the course was attended by 9 Branch Committee Members and Potential Committee Members from Torrevieja Branch.

Branch Management, MS Office 365 & Membership Administration Portal - District Course.
On Monday 20th & Tuesday 21st March 2023 the Spain District North Training Officer, Paul Mensha Franks assisted by the District Chairman, Jack Kemp, provided another two day course in Javea, the course was attended by Branch Committee Members from both Javea and Benidorm Branches with another 14 Branch Committee Members and Potential Committee Members trained.
I would like to thank Michael Huggins, Chair of Javea Branch for hosting the course which was kindly provided free of charge at the DAR Social Club and Community Centre.

A Very Special Occasion - Congratulations Pamela Twissell-Cross MBE
Spain District North would like to share this very special occasion with our Branch Members
Congratulations to Pamela Twissell-Cross MBE, who was recently presented her MBE by the British Ambassador to Spain and the Legion Patron in Spain Mr Hugh Elliott. Pamela was awarded the MBE for her work on behalf of The Royal British Legion here in Spain District North. Pamela is our Community Support Coordinator and leads on the Beneficiary Support across the District. I’m sure you will agree that we are all extremely proud of what Pamala has achieved over several years here in Spain.
