South & West Yorkshire

July 2023

Sunday 2nd July was 100th anniversary of the South Elmsall Cenotaph. A small service was held, with standard bearers, a bugler played the last post and and the service included the air cadets. Our County Chairman (Sally Court) had been invited to lay a wreath along with the Mayor and other dignitaries. A reception was held at South Elmsall United Services Club for all attendees, after the service.

On Sunday 9th July Our County Chairman (Sally Court) and MC Rep Gordon Barker along with other Legion members, attended the charity rugby match at Featherstone Rovers ground. The teams were the Royal Navy -v- The Prison Service. There were collection buckets inside and outside the ground and part of the collection money was generously given to the Royal British Legion.

The match was exciting and well played with the Royal Navy winning 44 to 8. Well done to both teams.

Featherstone Rovers played their own game after the charity match, winning 52 to 6 against Swinton Lions, good luck for their last 2 fixtures, hope to see them in the Super League next season.
