RBL Deddington 80th D-Day Anniversary Commemoration

 

To mark the 80th Anniversary of D-Day members of the County Ceremonial Team joined members in Deddington to Commemorate the remarkable feat today 80 years on from those heroic men that stormed the beaches of fortress Europe. Deddington has links with Major General Sir Percy Cleghorn Stanley Hobart KBE CB DSO MC who was the Officer Commanding 79th (Experimental) Armoured Division Royal Engineers designated “Hobart’s Funnies” designed and developed modified tanks to support the infantry storm the beaches. The ceremony at 0630hrs was attended by Deddington RBL Members Hon President Major David Hood MC, Chair Commander Robert Forsyth RN (Retd), Secretary Tony Lowe, Treasurer Ralph Stewart, D-Day Event Manager John Pearson, Piper Stewart Carnegie, Flag Hoister Clive Wincott (Hobart Way), RBL County Chairman Pete Eldridge, County Parade Marshal Pete Clarke, County Standard Bearer Tjark Andrews and Deddington Branch Standard Bearer James Greenwood. Also present Rev Nick Fielden, Flt Lt O’Dell RAF, Warrant Officer Chad Hall, MP Victoria Prentiss, CDC Councillor David Roger’s, Parish Councillor Allan Collins and Primary School Head Clive Evans.
