The Royal British Legion is the nation's leading Armed Forces charity providing care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces past and present and their families. It is also the national Custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces. It is best known for the annual Poppy Appeal and its emblem the red poppy.
The Royal British Legion County of Northumbria came into being in 2008 when two existing counties, Durham and Northumberland, were amalgamated. This was due to declining members and a means to streamlining the support for the entire area. Northumbria has a rich tapestry of towns and villages and is home to 35 Branches.
These Branches cover an area from as far north as Berwick upon Tweed to Darlington in County Durham.
We are here to administer and support the delivery of welfare services, membership and fundraising activities of the Legion's branches and clubs throughout Northumbria
Membership of The Royal British Legion is available to all adults, not just members or ex-members of the forces and we always welcome new members. Drop in or contact your local branch
