Somme Commemoration at Irish National War Memorial 2024

The annual commemoration of the Battle of the Somme and wreath-laying at the Irish National War Memorial in Islandbridge, Dublin 8, will be held on Saturday, 13th July 2023, from 12 noon to 3 pm.

This ceremony is arranged and led by the Royal British Legion in Ireland with the cooperation and assistance of the Irish State.

The event, held annually around the time of the start of the Battle of the Somme, commemorates all those who lost their lives during the battle and in the two World Wars, particularly the estimated 60,000 Irish men and women from all parts of the island who served and died in those conflicts. Representation from all regions and traditions of Ireland is a core feature of this unique, shared-island event.

Poppy wreaths available

Poppy wreaths and memorabilia will be available from the Royal British Legion Republic of Ireland office. However, they must be pre-ordered, prepaid for, and collected from the office before the event. Wreaths can be personalised with RBL or Regimental crest centres; our office holds a stock of the more common regimental crests.

You can order wreaths and poppy pins online from the Poppy Ireland shop.
