‘An immense honour to serve’—Brian Duffy MBE

Mr Brian Duffy MBE, left, congratulates Mr Paul Stephenson on becoming District Chairman while Lt Col Ken Martin observes.

Mr Brian Duffy MBE, confirmed his resignation as Chairman of the Republic of Ireland District, saying,

It is with mixed emotions that I write to confirm to you my decision to resign from my role as District Chairman of the Royal British Legion in the Republic of Ireland. After much contemplation, I have come to the conclusion that it is time for me to step down and pass the torch to new leadership. This will be effective from 1st August 2023.

Over the past six years, it has been an immense honour to serve as your District Chairman particularly during such a significant period that was the decade of centenaries and many WW1 Centenaries. The Royal British Legion has always held a special place in my heart, and I have been truly grateful for the unwavering support and camaraderie that I have received from throughout my tenure. Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones in our small District and made a positive influence on the lives of veterans and their families.

I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your dedication, commitment, and support. It is because of your collective efforts and selflessness that we have been able to uphold the values and traditions of the Legion so successfully, fulfilling the special roles to beneficiaries and the memory of the fallen.

At the recent meeting of the District Committee, the District Vice Chairman Paul Stephenson was co-opted as District Chairman for the remainder of this term of office, to take effect from 1st August 2023. Paul has been an integral part of our team for the past three years, serving us as the Vice Chairman with great distinction. His experience, passion, and dedication make him a natural choice to lead our District forward.

Speaking after the District meeting, Brian Duffy said:

I have complete confidence in Paul's ability to carry on our important work, and I know he will have your full support.
