Invictus Games Foundation
Inspiring recovery through sport, challenge, and international community
The Invictus Games Foundation is the international charity that oversees and develops the Invictus Games — a global adaptive sporting event for wounded, injured, and sick (WIS) serving personnel and veterans. Through sport, shared experience, and international connection, the Foundation provides a powerful pathway to recovery, rehabilitation, and renewed purpose.
As part of our ongoing commitment to the Armed Forces community across the South West, the Royal British Legion in Devon and Cornwall is proud to support the work of the Invictus Games Foundation — including sponsoring an athlete competing at the Birmingham Games this year.
Their Mission
The Foundation’s mission is to harness the power of sport and challenge to support the recovery and wellbeing of WIS personnel worldwide.
Their work focuses on:
- Rehabilitation through adaptive sport
- Building international community and peer support
- Creating opportunities for post‑traumatic growth
- Promoting understanding of disability and mental health
The Invictus Games Foundation ensures that recovery continues long after the Games themselves, offering year‑round opportunities for connection, challenge, and personal development.
Who They Support
The Invictus community is open to anyone who has been injured or fallen ill during, or as a consequence of, military service.
This includes:
- Serving personnel
- Veterans
- Individuals with physical injuries
- Those living with psychological trauma or illness
The Foundation provides a safe, supportive environment where individuals can rebuild confidence, identity, and purpose.
The Power of Sport
Adaptive sport plays a vital role in recovery. It provides:
- Structure and routine
- Physical rehabilitation
- Emotional resilience
- Social connection
- A renewed sense of identity
The Invictus movement demonstrates that recovery is not only possible — it can be transformative.
Beyond the Games
The Invictus Games are only one part of the Foundation’s work.
Year‑round support includes:
- We Are Invictus — a digital community offering peer support and opportunities
- Adaptive sports leagues and training camps
- Esports and virtual competitions
- Adventurous challenges
- Volunteering, mentoring, and leadership opportunities
These programmes ensure that recovery continues long after the closing ceremony.
Our Regional Commitment: Sponsoring an Athlete
This year, Devon and Cornwall together have proudly sponsored an athlete competing at the Birmingham Invictus Games.
This sponsorship reflects our shared commitment to:
- Supporting recovery through sport
- Championing the resilience of WIS personnel
- Celebrating the achievements of our regional veterans and serving community
- Ensuring that no one faces their recovery journey alone
Our sponsored athlete represents the strength, determination, and spirit of the South West — and we are honoured to stand behind them.
