The Theatre Royal Plymouth, in partnership with Bravo 22 Company (The Royal British Legion’s Recovery through Theatre programme) are creating a Theatre Company from scratch comprising members of our local Armed Forces Community. The idea is that they will develop and realise a completely new play, giving voice to their stories and experiences, and fill roles on stage and back stage.

The aim of the project is to renew confidence, motivation and energy levels. It also aims to give participants transferable skills that they can take in to employment or other avenues. We’re encouraging people to talk to us about this as many are surprised at what goes in to theatre making and the number of departments involved!

The project is open to wounded, injured and sick Service personnel, veterans who have recently left the military, Reservists and Service family members, regardless of previous experience.

We are currently recruiting for technical, backstage and Production support roles (all of which we’d train people in). On Fri 31st July (10am-1pm) we are holding an Information session at the theatre for anyone interested in getting involved – this will include a tour of The Lyric Stage and a chance to meet our technical team and find out more.

We also still currently have space for a more male performers.

I wonder if the project might be of interest to Armed Forces Community members you support. At the moment the project is geared towards over 18s.

Feel free to circulate this info, and if anyone you know is interested in either of the above areas or would like to come along on the 31st July please let my colleague Sally (cc’d in) know.
