Briony Edwards, 8 years old, travelled with her Grandad & family to Ypres last week for a very special event. Briony's Grandad, John Edwards, Standard Bearer for Egremont & one of our amazing Poppy Appeal Organisers, took his family to some of the Salient battlefields & then to the Menin Gate. John was joined by the Standard Bearer from Royal British Legion Mirfield Branch, to take part in the daily Last Post Ceremony on Monday 29th May.

Every evening at exactly 8 o'clock, the buglers play their simple but moving tribute to the memory of the soldiers who fought & died here so many years ago.

John had arranged with the Last Post Association for the Edwards family to take part in an extended version of the ceremony. During the ceremony, Briony & her Dad, Gareth Edwards, laid a posy & wreath to commemorate the fallen. The Excelsis Choir also took part in the ceremony providing an amazing musical experience for all who were there.

Thank you to John for sharing his extremely moving family experience with us.

Contact Last Post Association if you would like to attend one of the daily ceremonies at the The Menin Gate, Ypres.
