In February this year, we held a surprise presentation for two
of our members at the end of our normal Branch meeting.
It was to thank them for collecting the magnificent sum of
£892.75 for the Poppy Appeal. Both Ivor, and his wife, Muriel, who
are not in the best of health endured adverse weather conditions
during the Poppy Appeal fortnight, and collected the old fashioned
hard way, by knocking doors and standing on street corners.
The County Poppy Appeal Coordinator presented Ivor and
Muriel with Certificates of appreciation, and were sent a
hand written letter of thanks from the South East Wales Poppy
Appeal Coordinator.
Our Saluting Officer, Squadron Leader Damian
Townsend, a local lad (photograph attached) has done us
proud for many years in this capacity, but sadly for us he has been
posted to the USA. We wish Damian all the very best with his new
appointment and look forward to his return.
Our branch, albeit small, is proud of the fact that we have won
the R V Hughes Shield for the most improved small branch four times
out of the past eight years, and we are optimistic of making it a
fifth time this year.
