National Service of Remembrance Sunday 10th November 2024
Yeovil Town Council, It's Residents and the Yeovil & District Branch of the Royal British Legion along with HM Armed Forces, Veteran’s, Emergency and Civilian Volunteer Services, Schools and Youth Organisations held their National (Sunday) Parade and Act of Remembrance at the Yeovil Town War Memorial (Cenotaph), followed by a Service of Remembrance in St John’s the Baptist Church culminating with a Parade/March Past in the Borough-High Street where the Town Mayor and the Commanding Officer HMS Heron took the Salute.
While many a local Act of Remembrance were also taking place in Villages and Towns in the Yeovil North Dorset/Somerset Area, further Acts of Remembrance were conducted at Preston Plucknett War Memorial and the Commonwealth War Grave’s Plot in Yeovil Cemetery later in the afternoon.
Additionally, on Monday 11th at 10.45 Armistice Day at the Town War Memorial (Cenotaph). The Y&D RBL Branch held a short service to observe the “11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month 1918” Cessation of the First World War hostilities and were the President of the Y&D RBL placed a Wreath beneath the Yeovil Town Memorial Plaque dedicated the US Forces Stationed in the area, who embarked on the 1944 D-Day Landings.
