Sudbury

The 6th June 2024 marked the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, the largest sea-borne invasion in history and one which open up the liberation of France and was a pivotal moment in the Second World War

To mark this occasion the Sudbury branch of the Royal British Legion held a small service in the evening at the War Memorial outside St Gregory’s Church mustering at 20.15hrs for a 20.30hrs start. At the end of the service we moved to the Croft for the Town Hall Beacon Lighting ceremony at 21.00 hrs.

With remaining veterans now in their late 90’s this will be the last time this anniversary will be marked this way.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them."
