St James' Branch was created over 20 years ago as the central branch of the Legion to enable membership of the Royal British Legion for those people who were not residing close to a local Legion branch. Consequently, many of our members joined while they were serving in the Armed Forces and moving home frequently. The Branch enables many people to join the Legion who may not otherwise be members. This includes those living in remote areas, people who are unable to take an active role because of business or other commitments, or those (often serving men and women) who do not yet have a permanent home. It can also perform a transit function for those who wish to join a local branch but who are unable to make direct contact with the branch concerned. Such members can be administered within in St James' pending transfer to the local branch.
