Standish

Standish Royal British Legion was formed on 12th February 1922.

On the 12th February 2012 Standish Royal British Legion held a celebration for the formation of the Branch. We held a Church service at St. Wilfrids Church Standish. Many dignatories of the area were in attendance. 20 Standard Bearers from the local Region were on parade.

At the entrance to the Chucrh a guard of honour formed by 2 scarlets in ceremonial dress from D Squadron Royal Mercian Lancastrian Yeomanry based at TA Center Wigan by kind permission of Maj Valentine Officer Commanding D Squadron.

The Scarlets and The Royal British Legion Standards formed a Guard of Honour at the exit of St.Wilfrid's Church.

After the Church Service it was off to the Standish Labour Club for some "hot pot" and "cream cakes" and a few drinks.

Major Georgina Myles had recently returned after working in the Field Hospital at Camp Bastion Afghanistan, gave a refelection of her time whilst serving her tour during our Church Service. Georgina who was one of the recipiants of the shoe boxes that Standish Royal British Legion sent out to Afghanistan.

Standish Royal British Legion would like to say a special thank you to Rector Andrew Holliday of St. Wilfrid's Parish Church, Rev Gillian Watson & Rev Lawrence Porter for the wonderful service . A special thank you goes to The Director of music John Walton GRNCM, FLCM, FRCO. for the the wonderful music he provided and for the St. Wilfrid's Choir. A final Thank you goes to The Venerable Michael Everitt Archdeacon of Lancaster for returning to Standish to give us a Sermon.

A special Thank you to all the County & Branch Standard Bearers who made our celebration day a special one.

Most importantly a special Thank you goes out to all those people who support Standish Royal British Legion, without you and your support, we wouldn't have got to where we are as a Branch today.
