This year marked an important anniversary in the Royal British Legion's calendar. It marked the 90th anniversary of the Great Pilgrimage of 1928. Back then, known as the British Legion, relatives made their way out to the former battlefields of Belgium, and attended a service at the Menin Gate in Ypres.

The intention of the RBL, was to recreate this with as many branch standards as they could get, marching past the Cloth Hall in Ypres and down through the Menin Gate. Followed up by accompanying wreath carriers.

Branch President Alan Frankland and branch Chairman Eric Howden, represented the Redcar branch out in Belgium, and proudly marched through the streets of Ypres to the Menin Gate. The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Her Majesty's representative to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Arch Bishop of York.
