The Rathfriland Branch of the RBL is now in its 66th year and still going strong for such a small rural village in County Down. The members first travelled to Newry after the formation of the Legion there and it wasn't untill after WW2 that it was suggested by a leading figure in the Newry Branch that the members from Rathfriland were strong enough in numbers to create their very own Branch. This they did in 1948 using a number of premises to hold their regular meetings over the years. Today the Legion is finding things tough, smaller memberships, increased fees and responsabilities and the hard economical times that we are currently going through are just part of the problem. Thankfully the Branch is still up for the challenge of the future, and remains keen in supporting all those servicemen/women in whatever way we can. The Branch is also very much proud of all those Comrades that have been part of the Branch or had a helping hand in guiding the Branch forward for all these years and are always happy to recieve new members.
