Remembrance
The Royal British Legion is recognised as the national custodian of Remembrance.
Portishead Branch remembers all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today on two days in November.
On November 11th Armistice Day - a short service (open to all) is held outside Waitrose in the Piazza.
Remembrance Sunday, the SECOND SUNDAY in November, is the day traditionally put aside to remember. The current year’s date is shown on the Home page.
Many local groups and organisations are involved in our parade. Examples: Local Band…Scouts, Guides, Fire and Rescue, Service Veterans, Army Cadets, Air Force Cadets, etc.
As many as 5,000 people are expected to line the High Street in patient and respectful anticipation.
Arthur Oborne, a D-Day landings veteran aged 97, carries the wreath and leads the RBL contingent to the Church of St Peters, Portishead for the 2021 Remembrance Parade.
