Minchinhampton

The County Branch of the Royal British Legion considers annually the presentation of an Achievement Award to its members whose activities over the years have provided enduring support to the aims of the organisation. This year Minchinhampton Branch has had one member so honoured.
John Bingle joined the Minchinhampton Branch some while ago but early on determined that the War Memorial would benefit from the addition of planters on the ledges around it. He then took on the task of growing the plants required and maintaining the planters throughout the year. He has taken on the expense himself and resolutely declines reimbursement. Under his stewardship the Memorial has always looked well cared for and provides a fitting tribute to our fallen. His management of the planters through all weathers ensures that a healthy vibrant display guarantees that the Memorial is an attractive focal point in the centre of the town.
For such dedicated service to the British Legion has was awarded the County Certificate at the Annual County Conference in January 2015. Unfortunately John was unable to attend the conference so our branch secretary, Sandra Hayward collected the award on his behalf from The County President, Air Vice-Marshall Ian Corbitt.
Naturally John was unaware that he had been awarded this honour so he was rather surprised when during the Recent proceedings of the Minchinhampton Gardening Club AGM he was called forward to receive his certificate.
