The Inauguration of the RAFA Memorial Monument at Ta’ Qali, Malta was held under a clear blue sky on Independence Day in Malta, the 21st of September 2023.
It was decided to commemorate another important event on this special day in finally closing a chapter on the History of the Royal Air Force in Malta. This was the Inauguration and Unveiling of a Royal Air Forces Association Memorial Monument to all the RAF personnel who served in Malta from 1918 until l979 when the RAF left Malta for good.
The story began at the 2017 Annual General Meeting of the Royal Air Force Association. Malta G C Branch when a retired RAF serviceman, Manwel Farrugia, put forward a personal motion to create and install a permanent Memorial to all RAF Servicemen who had ever served in Malta. The Memorial project was born, approved, and installed.

The Branch held a Coronation Dinner and dance at the Westin Dragonara Resort on Friday 5th May. The event was held under the patronage of The British High Commissioner H.E. Katherine Ward. The event was well attended by over 200 guests and we were kept well entertained by members of the AF Band throughout the evening. A lot of hard work went into organising this historical event and I want to echo my appreciation to those who contributed in one way or another to make it such a memorable occasion. We should indeed be very proud of our achievement as the Malta Branch of the Royal British Legion.
