Remembrance Sunday 2023

The Remembrance Sunday Service was held at St. George's Anglican Church.

It was attended by HE Hugh Elliott, HM Ambassador to Spain, the defence attachés of various embassies, the 1st Madrid British Scouts, the 1st Majadahonda British Scouts, and the Madrid Branch of the Royal British Legion among many others.

Welcoming the guests

Captain Stephen McGlory RN, British Defence Attaché, read from the Book of Micah (4.1-5)
And he shall judge among many peoples,
and rebuke strong nations afar off;
and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks:
nation shall not lift up a sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war anymore.

HE Hugh Elliott

HE Hugh Elliott read from the Gospel of St. John (15:9-17)
This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends.

Major Nigel Hunt RA

Major Nigel Hunt RA recited the exhortation, the bugler played the Last Post, and two minutes of silence were observed
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Remembrance Sunday service

The service ended with the reading of the Kohima Epitaph and the singing of the National Anthem
When you go home, tell them of us and say,
For your tomorrow, we gave our today.
