Lurgan and Brownlow Branch and Club Burns' Night Supper Friday 27th January 2023

On Friday 27th January 2023, 45 members and friends attended the first Burns' Night Supper held in the Club for many a year. The Chairman, Squadron Leader Jim Maginnis welcomed everyone to the event and wished all a 'richt guid nicht'.

The evening followed traditional Burns' Night format; the haggis was piped in, and the 'To The Haggis' and 'Selkirk Grace' was given by Gary Blair of the Ulster Scots' Agency. Everyone enjoyed the customary haggis, neeps and tatties with a wee dram to toast the haggis.

As the meal finished, and following a set from our pipers William and Joe, Gary Blair gave a interesting, witty and informative talk on Rabbie Burns and the Ulster Scots' legacy in Northern Ireland.

After the Chairman gave a vote of thanks to Jacqui Beck (who was the driving force behind the evening), her able assistant Jennifer McKinley, Daphne and her catering team, Joe and William the pipers, and Gary Blair, Jim proposed the 'Toast to the Lassies' (whilst managing to humorously alienate both the Lassies and the Laddies). This was ably answered in the toast 'To the Laddies' by Jacqui.

The evening carried on with music from 'Wayne's World'.

All of those who attended agreed that it was a fantastic evening and looked forward to many more!!
