Branch History

The Helmshore Branch of the Royal British Legion was incorporated on 20th November 1924 following the purchase of the Mechanic's Arms on Holcombe Road, Helmshore. This became the British Legion Club.

A large framed photograph of the early Committee is on display at Haslingden Library.

The Branch is celebrating its celebrated its 100th anniversary this year and is the longest continuous active Royal British Legion Branch in Rossendale.

The old Club premises on Holcombe Road closed in March 1996, however, the Branch Committee continued its work and now meets at the Sunnybank Social Club in Helmshore.

Committee meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month at 8pm. An Annual General Meeting is also held. There are currently 50 active members.

Historical records are kept including minutes of Committee meetings, newspaper cuttings and photographs. These are frequently displayed at Branch fundraising events.
