Hardwicke & District Branch decided to mark our annual Armed Forces Day celebration with a highly visible show of active Royal British Legion members doing their bit to keep The Legion in the public eye.

An early start on Sunday 24th June 2012 saw a team of five made up of four members from Hardwicke & District and one from Tewkesbury Branch heading for Wiltshire. Their destination the town of Royal Wootton Bassett. Their intention was to cycle 40 miles from the town, via Cirencester, Stroud  & Stonehouse to Branch HQ at Hardwicke, Gloucester.

The team was supported by members of The Royal British Legion Rider's Branch from Gloucestershire & Wiltshire who escorted our pedal powered colleagues through some of the trickier parts of the route ensuring their safety.

Providing close medical support and also escorting the team was father and daughter team Keith & Katy Llewellyn from St John's Ambulance, Gloucester, an additional transport vehicle was provided by Connect Couriers of Tewkesbury.

The team had a strong headwind blowing into their faces all the way home to Hardwicke which on some occasions proved difficult. However, showing the resillience of good Legion members the team continued on across the hills wearing their Poppy emblazoned high visibility jackets just to ensure everyone knew who they were.

All of the team, Cyclists, St John's, Riders escort and support  came in together at Branch HQ for a well earned pint of whatever, burgers, hot dogs and team photograph.

WELL DONE everyone who took part!
