Halstead and Colne Engaine

VOLUNTEER AT HALSTEAD RBL BRANCH

If you are available on the first Tuesday of every month, consider joining the Halstead RBL Committee, where we discuss ideas and make plans for community events in Halstead and Colne Engaine.

Every year all posts on the committee, Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary are open to all and you can put forward your details for members to vote on.  If you feel you can make a difference not just to the armed forces veterans and the community at large, consider taking up one of these positions.

We need new members now.  We have roles open for Community Support Officers.  These are the lifeline to veterans and other members in our community who are struggling.  You may be contacted by an elderly veteran who is feeling alone, a veteran who is struggling to cope since leaving the forces, forces personnel  struggling to pay their bills, or simply someone far away who needs someone to visit their elderly parent in the Halstead area, just to check in with them, make sure they are OK and spend some time with them.

Full training for Community Support Officers is given by the RBL, which includes a free DBS Check.  It's an excellent way to gain experience, training and something to place on your C.V. if you are just starting out on a career.  If you are at the end of your career and have experience and some time to spare, consider one of the over-arching support roles of the Community Support which is the first point of contact from the RBL and involves you searching for and hiring other Community Support Officers to act throughout the community.

You may find yourself as the first point of contact from a veteran reaching out for help for an ex-armed forces family struggling financially.

The RBL will offer full training on where to direct people, how to get them help and how to handle all sorts of situations.

There are many other ways you can make a difference at your local RBL branch, from poppy collecting to event organising.

Even if you just feel like a night out of the house, come down and join us at the branch meeting and see what we do, we're a cheerful bunch and often wonder into the clubhouse after the meeting for a few drinks or a game of pool.
