The Hailsham and District branch of the Royal British Legion meet on the second Tuesday of each month, (except for August and January), at 1930hrs in the Hailsham Club on Vicarage Field. The club is situated behind the memorial, in the high street, at the back of the Costa coffee shop.
You do not need to be a member of the Memorial Club to attend the RBL meetings.
You also do not need to be a veteran to join the Royal British Legion.
The meetings usually follow a set format.
- All who are present, and are able, stand for the Exhortation.
- This is followed by a welcome to guests, new members, and apologies for absences.
- The minutes from the previous meeting are voted in and any actions from those minutes discussed.
- The Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer all have their own reports and this is followed by any other business, where anyone present can introduce a new topic, although, if you have a desire to mention anything, it might be worth contacting the secretary prior to the meeting so that your topic can be included in the agenda.
- To close the meeting, everyone, who can, stands to hear the Kohima.
- We then get down to the business of socialising, telling sea stories, engaging old battle plans, pulling up sandbags and swinging lanterns.
We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.
