Remembrance In Ely

Remembrance Service – Sunday 9th November 2025

Remembrance Sunday, which falls on 9th November in 2025, is a day for the nation to remember and honour those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom.

We welcome all people in Ely to join us at the Cathedral on Sunday 9th November for a spectacular and very moving service, as well as a march through town, parade and Act of Remembrance in the Market Square.

The planned itinerary for this year is as follows:

Key Locations:
📍 Porta Gate, Barton Square, Ely CB7 4DF
📍 Ely Cathedral & Ely Market Square

Key Timings:

  • 09:15 – Parade assembles at Porta Gate. Detachment commanders receive a briefing outside Monks Barn.

  • 10:00 – Parade marches to Ely Cathedral.

  • 10:10 – Arrival at Cathedral; reserved seating available for parade participants.

  • 10:30 – Cathedral Service begins, attended by the Lord Lieutenant or their representative.

  • 12:00 – Second Parade forms outside the Cathedral and marches to Ely Market Square.

  • Following Arrival

    • Wreath-laying at Ely War Memorial
    • Short ceremony including the Exhortation, 2-minute Silence, and Kohima Epitaph
    • Parade march-past and salute at the War Memorial
    • Parade stands down
  • 13:00 – Event concludes.
    📸 Photographs may be taken at the War Memorial; please allow others time to do the same.

Post-Event:


All participants, veterans, RBL members, and guests are warmly invited to a buffet at West End House, West End, Ely CB6 3AY.

Weather Notice:


In case of severe weather, the first parade may be cancelled (decision made onsite). The second parade will proceed as planned.

Armistice Day – Tuesday 11th November 2025

At approximately 1050hrs on Tuesday 11th November 2025 there will be a short service to
commemorate the signing of the Armistice on 11th November 1918 at the Ely War Memorial. The Service will include the laying of wreaths by the Mayor, ECDC Chairman and President of the City of Ely
Royal British Legion Branch.


Please be aware that the following road closure will be in place:

  • 1015hrs to approx. 1130hrs – High Street closed
