We Need Volunteers!

It is our volunteers and supporters in Chippenham and the surrounding area who form the backbone of our Branch. Without them we would miss out not just on the money they raise on our behalf, but the enthusiasm and human touch which they bring to the work they do for us in our local community. Any time is valuable - whether you have just an hour a week, or a day per week. We desperately need people who share our values. All supporters are welcome. You don't have to have an Armed Forces background.

Do you have the time to help us?

Who we need

We need people of all ages to help us in a range of different areas, depending on your interest and also how much time you can spare. Just an hour or two a month can make all the difference. We are looking for people to help raise funds, conduct welfare visits or use their secretarial or organisational skills to fill critical Branch appointments.

There are four main areas where we need you to help:

Poppy Appeal

Poppy Appeal Collectors form the 'frontline' of our annual Poppy Appeal, standing on the high street, supermarket, garage or rail station, selling Poppies and collecting money from passersby. Their role is twofold: helping to raise a huge amount towards the £70 million plus which the Legion spends each year on its welfare work and reminding the public at large about the importance of Remembrance.

Volunteer Casework

Welfare support is one of our main reasons for being. Volunteer caseworkers are active in our local community the whole year round: giving advice and assistance in claiming state benefits providing support through family crises such as bereavement, obtaining advice and assistance on pensions, assisting people applying for long-term residential and nursing care and short term respite breaks, providing information on other local and national welfare organisations supporting homeless ex-Service people.

'Giving something back to people who give or have given up so much for our community is extremely satisfying. Knowing that the charity does so much for our serving and ex-service community: I have helped men and women and families, young and old, with a wide range of concerns and needs. Sometimes providing nothing more than someone to chat to. Hospital & Housebound Visitors

This is one of the oldest of the Legion's schemes, and encapsulates what our welfare network is all about people looking out for each other. Sometimes ex-Service men and women who are either in a care home, housebound or in hospital have no contact with the outside world. So the couple of hours a Visitor could spend with them can mean the world.

We desperately need people to volunteer to train as Hospital & Housebound Visitors.

Fundraising Events

Our small teams of enthusiastic volunteers organize many fundraising events throughout the year, such as The County Ball held at the Neeld Hall, Running Charity Events, Manning the RBL Stand at local events. However, we are always looking for volunteers to help and bring new ideas. Some of our supporters have even run in the London Marathon for us. Not only is it an opportunity for people to raise vital funds for the Legion but is also gives them the chance to set themselves personal challenges, and also have a lot of fun!
