This Memorial is a Celtic type cross constructed of Shap granite. It is located by the roadside adjacent to the Village Hall and within a small enclosure constructed of steel fencing and a drystone wall. 

The Memorial bears the names of ten fatalities of the Great War and one of WW2.  It also displays the names of some forty-three who served and returned to their families, many wounded in mind and body, but alive.

 “IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF CUMWHINTON AND DISTRICT WHO WERE KILLED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919.  AND OF THOSE WHO ALSO SERVED”.   

“THEY WERE A WALL UNTO US BOTH BY NIGHT AND DAY”               (1st Book of Samuel).

And a casualty of WW2, Stoker 1st Class JOHN HENRY GRAHAM of the ROYAL NAVY, KILLED IN ACTION on 3st Jan 1942, at the age of 24. He was serving on H.M.S. Belmont.  He is commemorated on Panel 68, Column 2, of the PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL.
