Broomfield Branch, in association with Broomfield Church, held a full day of commemoration for the centenary of the start of the First World War on 4th August 2014.
At 10.00am a kneeler illustrating the Cenotaph, stitched by the Women’s Section in memory of their late Chairman and County Secretary Audrey Evans, was dedicated. This was followed at 10.30am and 2.30pm by a talk by Alun Powell on the lives of the Broomfield men listed on the Village War Memorial – who died on all fronts of the First War.
At 7.00pm a brief service was held at the War Memorial, where a candle was lit and remained burning throughout the night.
During the day tea & cakes was served by the Women’s Section in the Church Hall.
