REMEMBRANCE DAY 10th November 2013

A beautiful Autumnal morning greeted those who wished to take part in the Remembrance Sunday Ceremony at Broomfield. Members of the RBL, RASC/RCT Association, Scouts, parishioners, friends and comrades paraded from the village green to the parish church of St Mary with St Leonard under the command of a detachment of serving soldiers who had travelled from Colchester to take part.

Inside the church the names of those from the village who had paid the ultimate sacrifice in war was read out by a young leader from 1^st Broomfield Scouts, followed by the moments of silence to remember them.

An enjoyable but moving service followed including a hymn sung to the tune of the Dambusters march- no excuse for not knowing that song! A reading of John Macraes’poem “In Flanders Fields” became the text for the sermon.

The congregation  moved outside to lay wreaths upon the graves of the War dead resting in the churchyard. A short ceremony and respectful silence ended the formal proceedings. Many RBL members, friends and comrades then adjourned to the RBL HQ in Saxon Way for refreshments and to catch up on old times with an entertainer providing a mixture of old favourites and popular songs.

 ARMISTICE DAY 11th November 2013

It was a dull Armistice Day (Monday) when Broomfield gathered around the Village War Memorial, on Church Green, for a brief service and the two minutes silence. As the last notes of ‘Reveille’ died away wreaths were laid on behalf the Broomfield Royal British Legion, Broomfield Royal British Legion Women’s Section, Chelmsford Branch RASC/RCT Association, Broomfield Parish Council and by children of St.Pius X Catholic Primary School.
