D-Day Commemorations

On the morning of Thursday 6 June, members from the Brampton & District Branch attended the D-Day Commemoration at the Cambridgeshire County Offices, New Shire Hall, Alconbury Weald. The commemoration was led by the Chair of Cambridgeshire County Council, Councillor Sebastian Kindersley. Deputy Lieutenant, Mr John Bridge OBE MStJ was in attendance and read “D-Day 6th June 1944” by Tracey Curtis before the D-Day Commemoration flag was raised outside New Shire Hall. Wreaths were laid after the sounding of “The Last Post” followed by a 2 minute silence. |
Lighting of the Beacon
Huntingdon Town Council joined the Nation by the lighting of the Beacon on Castle Hill at 9.15pm. Again members from the Brampton & District Branch attended the ceremony. The Beacon lighting was preceded by a procession from the Town Hall to the Beacon led by a piper from the Royal Air Force Pipes and Drums, the Town Mace and The Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Mr Daryl Brown MBE. The Beacon was lit at 9:15 pm by the Mayor of Huntingdon, Councillor Karl Brockett accompanied by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant. As the Beacon was lit, the “International Tribute” was read. |
