Baldock & District Branch

Some 50 members and guests gathered in the sunshine at the Orange Tree in Baldock for a barbecue evening last Saturday evening. With the very pleasant weather some chose to sit outside in the garden and the children made maximum use of the play area.

Our main entertainment of the evening was the three-piece band ‘Roger the Pig’ who are based in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire. Their eclectic repertoire had toes tapping and hands clapping with songs from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and a few from even more recently. Even the Dusty Springfield 1963 hit ‘I only want to be with you’ received a very upbeat rendition that everyone sang along to.

Landlord Rob Scahill hosted us magnificently with our food which was sponsored by Bob Chapman, the butchers in the High Street and rolls donated by our friends at Tescos. Our guests were very impressed with the range of ales kept at the Orange Tree, and some were stumped for choice.
As the evening drew in the audience crowded in to the club room to hear the second set from the band and were astounded to hear such a variety of tunes including an amazing ‘Hendrix’ style riff and some Paul Weller songs. Another splendid evening for the branch organised by Janice Middleton
