British and Canadian Wargraves
Evesham Worcestershire

The fact that the Vale of Evesham is a relatively flat area, attracted many airfields in the surrounding villages during the WW2 period. The Airstrips were extremely busy and were used mainly for training purposes and sadly, there were several crashes with fatalities. There are several who died on the same day and it can be assumed that these were in the same aircraft.

Our Great Canadian Allies were based here at Honeybourne and elsewhere but regrettably, they also, suffered many casualties and their names are recorded below. It is hoped that by noting these records, we will gain contacts with their loved ones in Canada and to be able to enter into correspondence with their families to reassure them that the plots are regularly maintained and if required, we will provide a photograph of the headstone.

Each November on the Saturday before Remembrance Day (11.11.11), the Evesham Branch together with the Mayor of Evesham and Councillors, go to the three Evesham Cemeteries and place a Poppy Cross on each War Grave and all plots occupied by ex-Servicemen and women as an act of Remembrance

Commonwealth War Grave Headston

This is a regular pattern of the Headstone used by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Note the gentle curve on the apex. These can be recognised from a distance.
