2016 Poland Visit

Royal British Legion, Ceredigion: Visit to Poland, 2016.

Sunday 3 April.

11.30.am. Depart Aberystwyth railway station.

3.00.pm. Arrive Birmingham International.

4.40.pm. Depart Birmingham International (Ryan Air; £51).

8.15.pm. Arrive Krakow. (Late supper in hotel).

Monday 4 April.

(a.m.): Visit the Great Salt Mine.

(p.m.): Visit Auschwitz.

(evening: perhaps a Concert after Dinner).

Tuesday 5 April:

(a.m.): Lay a Wreath at British military graves.

            Visit Polish Air Force Museum (admission: £3).

(afternoon): Free time to view the Old City, and do some shopping.

(evening): Entertain to Dinner a Polish veteran: Professor Wojciech Narebski.

Wednesday 6 April.

Proceed to Warsaw.

En route, hopefully, taking Lunch at Jędrzejów Abbey.

(Time may permit either a ride on the local steam train, or a visit to the Clock Museum).

En route, tea-break at a café of interest.

At Dinner tonight, our speaker will be: the Revd. Paul Mazanka, who will tell of his parish in the times of the Nazis and of the Communists.

Thursday 7 April.

(a.m.): Visit Polish Uprising Museum, and the Uprising Monument.

Find lunch in the Old City.

(afternoon): Lay a Wreath at the Liberator Monument in Park Skaryzszewski.

(Free Time).

At Dinner to-night there will be about eight relevant guests, including veterans: Major Marian Sļowínski and Mr Antoni Łapinski.

Friday 8 April.

Proceed to Bydgoszcz (early start).

(afternoon): Visit the Bydgoszcz Army Museum.

At Dinner tonight our guest will be a veteran: Mr Henryk Skrzypiński and his wife. ( As a young man/teenager he with many of his age group had to perform three years forced labour in Germany; as the Americans closed in, he escaped and joined the Free Polish Army,and after the war found himself based in Essex for two years; he remembers well the severe winter of 1947).

Saturday 9 April.

10.50.am. Depart Bydgoszcz Airport (Ryanair, £58).

12.10.pm. Arrive Birmingham International.

2.08.pm. Depart Birmingham International.

5.07.pm. Arrive Borth; Aberystwyth about 12 minutes later.

In addition to the air fares the  price per head will be about £450, based on a party of twelve.

(That will include all nights in three-star hotels, bed/breakfast, dinner, bus, admission fees, but not lunches out).

The costs of entertaining veterans are not included as a grant has been made to cover that.

I need to know by the end of November how many people would care to come.
