Festival of Remembrance

The Leicestershire and Rutland Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance is usually held annually at De Montfort Hall, Leicester, on a Saturday evening during October.

Arrangements for the 2021 Festival of Remembrance will be confirmed once the COVID-19 situation becomes clearer.

Hello Everyone Well here are some dates for you. This coming Saturday 18th, 2pm, School at Whetstone Memorial Hall, High St, LE8 6LP. This is our LAST school for the year. Raffle & refreshments as usual. October 9th Standard Bearers Competition, Mountsorrel Memorial Centre LE12 7DB, 1pm prompt! Please come and support your fellow Standard Bearers who have entered the completion, it is well worth watching and gaining some tips!

Festival of Remembrance October 30th, De-Montfort Hall 7pm. It would be nice to get your fellow Legion members to support this along with family & friends. We have decided not to hold the Carol Service this year due to short notice with COVID, but hope to start again next year. The Standard Bearers A.G.M. Will be booked for the first Saturday in February 2022 the 5th at Whetstone Memorial Hall. Subs of £2 will due. The Regional Competition next February 2022 this time is hosted by Leicestershire and again will be at Mountsorrel Memorial Centre 12.30pm for 1pm. Be there prompt!! Hope to see as many of you at these events as possible.

Entries must be submitted by 5pm on 15 th November 2021 Results will be published by 5pm on 28 th November 2021.

Leicestershire and Rutland Royal British Legion are launching a new photography competition called Remember to Remember for children aged between 8 and 18 years. This is an opportunity for young people to photograph a place, event or an object that means remembrance to them. Entries must be submitted digitally in the form of a JPEG on the RBL website Here

Entries must be submitted by 5pm on 15 th November 2021 Results will be published by 5pm on 28 th November 2021.

The age groups

Group A 8-11 years of age

Group B 12-14 years of age

Group C 15-18 years of age

The rules

  • Any camera can be used to take the photograph, but the entry must be submitted digitally
  • Photographs must be taken by the person submitting them
  • Photographs must be an original image
  • The photograph must be submitted with details of where it was taken, date and time
  • Parental/Carer/Guardian/Teacher can help but not influence and be responsible for the safety of the entrants at all times.
  • Permission must be obtained from the owners of private property, and individuals or their guardians whose image/images are used.
  • All entries must not be enhanced, but cropping and colour changing is allowed
  • No entry can be accepted without a signed consent form
  • All entries become the property of the RBL.

The Theme

The theme of Remember to Remember is open to personal interpretation. The judges will be looking for an unusual or special image of remembrance. The photograph can be of a place, event, relevant objects, or people in the UK.

The Judges

There will be 3 independent judges, comprising of an award-winning amateur photographer, an RBL official and a graphic artist. They will assess each entry based on:-

  • Composition
  • Public appeal
  • An interpretation of remembrance

The judges will select 3 winning entries from each group. All winners will receive a Go Outdoors voucher, and they will have their work published on the RBL County website.
