St Edmunds School Projects and events in collaboration with the Leytonstone RBL

In October 2017 St Edmunds Primary School were joined by members of the branch for a special lunch prepared and served by some of the children as the finale to their half term of cooking lessons led by Mrs Pope and Mrs Kenny. Cheese on toast followed by Quorn “chicken” pasta and blueberry pancakes.

Children from St Edmunds joined the Edmonton Green Remembrance Day Parade this year (2017) and laid a hand-made wreath on the war memorial. The school found out the names of the men from Edmonton who were commemorated at Tyne Cot and who died 100 years ago at the Battle of Passchendaele. The children who lived closest to where those men lived (and in one case lived in the same house!) were asked to join the Poppy Project. They remembered “their” soldier on www.everyoneremembered.org and made poppies using their handprints which we made into a wreath. Members from the Leytonstone branch, including a Standard Bearer, joined us for our Remembrance Day assemblies which were led by children involved in the Poppy Project. The school are very grateful to Alan Calder, Ray Gross and all the other members who are always willing to give up their time to visit them.

Please visit our website for photos of these events (by kind permission of parents of all the children)
