4 November 2014 WW1 Rededication

The service was arranged by Southwark Council, in conjunction with the
Royal PoppyImage_jpg.jpgBritish Legion - Honor Oak.  It follows a complete renovation and reinstatement of the cemetery's 14-18 plot.

The plot contains the graves of 267 First World War casualties. It has not been possible to mark the graves individually, with the casualties commemorated instead, by name, on a screen wall inside the main entrance to the cemetery.

Director of UK Area, Barry Murphy, said: "The work being completed at Nunhead (All Saints) Cemetary is the single largest restorative project involving a WW1 burial site ever undertaken within the United Kingdom. Initially planned around 18 months ago it will be fully completed in time for next month's Remembrance period."

This project marks part of a wider on-going renovation programme within the cemetery, including the installation of full horticultural features in both the Canadian and Australian plots.
