On Thursday, Gloucestershire’s Royal British Legion hosted a “Thank You” for some of the County’s Poppy Appeal Organisers. The County Chairman, Group Captain Anny Reid OBE ARRC, presented the annual awards to Poppy Appeal Organisers from across the county who have had the highest annual increases for the amount raised in their areas. Poppy Appeal Organisers form Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and Coleford Branches were all presented with an award, along with a special award for the Poppy Appeal Organiser in Stroud.
The Annual awards were presented over a relaxing cup of tea and a selection of delicious cakes. Group Captain Anny Reid said “It’s great to have the opportunity to thank our volunteers for the huge amount of dedication they show, this is just a handful of people who represent the team of volunteers fundraising for the Poppy Appeal. As the Legion is spending £1.4 million a week on our welfare work, we appreciate every penny raised. We really do need more volunteers to help support the amazing work of our Poppy Appeal Organisers, to help spread the load as they can’t do it on their own.”
The Royal British Legion is extremely grateful to everyone who donates their time to help raise funds for the Poppy Appeal. Since this year’s Poppy Appeal was launched at the Steam Valley Railway in October last year, £802,769.15 has been raised due to their generosity of people across Gloucestershire. More volunteers are urgently needed. If you can offer your support, please do contact Nicole Mayall, Community Fundraiser, firstname.lastname@example.org tel. 07884 869597
