Staveley & District Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion membership was formed in 1921 after WW1 so that veterans could come together and find solidarity together.
Almost 100 years on the membership still provides veterans with friendship.Today the membership has evolved, and we welcome people from all backgrounds with a shared vision to support our Armed Forces Community struggling with difficulties today.
Membership is opened to everyone if you have an interest in the objectives of the legion and want to help and support for those that have served and their families, come and join us. We welcome men and women of all ages, whether they have served in the Armed Forces or not.
Becoming a member also provides the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities and events held locally, regionally and nationally throughout the year.
Our Objectives are: Legion membership ensures that Remembrance is kept alive and that the sacrifices our brave Service men and women have made are never forgotten. That the ex-Service community have a voice and that their concerns are brought to the public eye.

VJ Day 2020
Despite the restrictions imposed due to Covid 19, members of Staveley and District Branch of the Royal British Legion held a small socially distanced Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving alongside representatives of Staveley Town Council and Father Stephen from Staveley Parish Church.
Thanks to our Branch President Baron Martin Thacker of Fetternear MBE for officiating, Cllr Paul Mann and to our stalwart members for their support on such an important event.
VJ Day marks the day that Japan surrendered on August 15, 1945, which ended the Second World.
Wreaths were laid by Martin Thacker, president of the Staveley branch of the Royal British Legion, Councillor Paul Mann, leader of Staveley Town Council, and Marion Gerrard, on behalf of Staveley Armed Forces Veterans' Association.
The service was conducted by Reverend Stephen Jones and the Last Post was played by Faith Whateley.
Mr Thacker said: “Although the service was socially-distanced and reflecting the current situation, it was essential we remembered those who sacrificed their everything in the Far East during the Second World War.
“The local branch of the Royal British Legion represented the Staveley community in a poignant act of remembrance to commemorate the end of a terrible conflict."
