Acts of Remembrance 2022
Armistice Day
On Armistice Day, Friday 11th November 2022, there will be an informal gathering at the Mayfield War Memorial at 11.00am to observe the national two-minutes silence. Wherever you are at this time please pause and observe the two-minutes silence, an Act of Remembrance that the UK has honoured since 1919.
Remembrance Sunday
Remembrance Sunday falls on Sunday 13th November 2022. This year's Remembrance Services will be similar to previous years. There will be a short ecumenical Service of Remembrance at the Mayfield War Memorial. The congregation should be assembled at 10.45am. Wreaths will be laid. This will be followed by the national two-minutes silence at 11.00am. Immediately following the silence there will be a full Remembrance Service in St Dunstan's Church, during which the names of the Fallen from Mayfield and Five Ashes will be read.
Remembrance Sunday at Five Ashes
At 2.30pm on Remembrance Sunday, 13th November 2022, there will be a brief Service of Remembrance at the Five Ashes War Memorial.
Remembrance Service 2021
There was a very well attended Remembrance event. Thank you to all who attended at either the War Memorial or afterwards at the church service in St. Dunstan's.
Remembrance Service 2020
There was no formal Remembrance gathering due to Covid-19 restrictions.
May 31st 2016 - There was a short service held around the Mayfield War Memorial, with the Mayfield Scouts in attendance.
August 4th 2014 - There was a simple service held at the Mayfield War Memorial led by Father Nigel. A wreath was laid on the War Memorial and the RBL Exhortation exclaimed. Following this, wreaths were laid on the six WW1 graves in the churchyard. Those present at the service were then invited to enter the west end of St Dunstan's, where the Local History Society presented a fantastic and moving film presentation, with music from the era, detailing the Mayfield and Five Ashes Fallen.

There was a short afternoon service at the Five Ashes War Memorial and a wreath was also laid there.

The evening event at Hadlow Down Church commenced with wreaths laid on the six WW1 graves in the churchyard, followed by the playing of the last post at sunset. Following this, a short service was held in the church and the names of the WW1 Fallen read out. Reveille was played and the RBL exhortation exclaimed.

The Royal British Legion is recognised as the national custodian of Remembrance.
Remembrance Sunday, the second Sunday in November, is the day traditionally put aside to remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.
