Over 150 joined the Parade to the Annual Service at the COPYTHORNE WAR MEMORIAL 2022

 

Sunday 13 Novenber 2022 saw one of the largest parades leave the Copythorne Parish Hall for the Annual Remembrance Service at St Mary's Church, Copythorne led by the Stanley's Own Scout and Guide Band.

The Union Flag was carried by a Guide and the Copythorne Branch Standard by Mark Parry-Norton.

The parade was supported by the "Stanley's Own Centenary Band", members of the Copythorne Royal British Legion, veterans and representatives from local organisations with  young people from the Rainbow Guides, Brownie Guides, the Guides, 2 Beaver Scout Colonies, 2 Cub Scout Packs, 2 Scout Troops and Explorer Scouts.

52 young people were wearing names poppies  of the young men who had died during two world wars.

A large congregation was waiting at the War Memorial.

The Service was conducted by Rev'd Barry James.

The Lord Lieutenant was represented by The Hon Mrs Lovell JP DL.

The service included prayers from young people from Bartley School, a guide, scouts, and Mrs Kay Smith of Cadnam Sundowners on behalf of all local organisations.

The bible reading was given by Pastor Su Parsons of the Methodist Church.

Following the ROLL CALL and Two Minutes Silence and Reveille, over thirty wreaths were laid on behalf of Service and local organisations as well as Winsor, Cadnam Methodist and St Mary's Churches.

NEARLY 300 ATTEND THE OPEN AIR REMEMBRANCE SERVICE AT COPYTHORNE WAR MEMORIAL 2021

The Parish of Copythorne marked Remembrance Sunday 2021 with a return of the parade from the Parish Hall to the War Memorial at St Mary's Church for an Open Air Service conducted by the Royal British Legion Padre, the Reverend John Reeve.

Led by Stanley's Own Scout and Guide Band, the Union Flag carried by the Guides and the Royal British Legion Standard carried by Mark Parry-Norton, the roads were closed to allow a long parade with the Royal British Legion members, Parish Counillors and representatives from local organisations, the Copythorne Scouts and Guides, and the Stanley's Own Centenary Scout Band.

Deputy Lieutenant the Hon Mrs V Lovell, JP represented the Lord Lieutenant. Prayers were read by pupils from Bartley School, a Guide and two Scouts and Mrs Jo Chilcott of the Copythorne Women's Institute.

The 52 names on the Roll of Honour were read out by the Legion's Branch Chairman, 'Ginge' Kinley aand the Exhortation by the Branch Vice Chairman, Barry Ryder. The Last Post was sounded by the Scout Band followed by the 'two minutes silence' and over 30 wreaths were laid on behalf of military charities and local organisations.

Copythorne History Society provided the histories of the 52 men whose names are inscribed on the War Memorial as well as others who served in the two world wars, with 52 young people wearing 52 'Named' poppies.

 

"They shall grow not old, As we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM."

LT GEN SIR MARK MANS KCB CBE DL JOINS VETERANS AT THE COPYTHORNE WAR MEMORIAL TO MARK THE CENTENARY OF THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION

At 9 am on Saturday 15th May 2021 the RBL Hampshire County Patron and Lady Mans were welcomed by veterans at the War Memorial at Copythorne Parish Church to celebrate 100 years since the formation of the British Legion on 15th May 1921 at 9 am.

With an introduction and prayers by the Copythorne Branch Chaplain, Reverend John Reeve, Sir Mark laid a wreath at the memorial, followed by Branch Chairman, Ginge Kinley with the branch wreath.

The standard was lowered by branch standard bearer, Mark Parry-Norton while Sir Mark recited the "Exhortation"

 

A two minute silence was observed.
